CARBUSTER
2003 Portugal
Public Art Installation

Each year, nearly millions of new cars and trucks are produced worldwide. What happens to all the different materials that make up a car when the car is thrown away? Some are recycled, some burned and others buried. It is
estimated that nine million cars are discarded in Europe each year, of which, a quarter end up on landfill sites. CARBUSTER focuses the attention on this specific environmental problem using a popular method of attraction – re-creating scenes from luxurious car shows, these images show old, abandoned cars, which contaminate the land.

Photography: Mario Alexandre, Portugal.
Site: Car Cemetery near the city of Cartaxo, Portugal
